Sat by my desk inking the Horse at stupid o'clock [very late at night - pushing next day] I was trying to take close up photos to show the detailing of the muscle's - a problem I had when photographing "Arnold", I tried with the flash, without etc etc couldn't get the results I wanted [don't think I ever will - need professional help - on so many levels!!!] so I thought putting my finger partly over the flash might help matters [don't ask why there wasn't an awful lot of logic behind that assumption] it didn't. But it did give me a really creepy looking horse, almost bloody looking, super impressed!! Thought I'd share, bit gutted it doesn't look like it in real life....

More Horses, Horses, Horses....

Photos I took during the Inking of the new Horse, as usual I had my panic that I'd messed it up completely as soon I'd inked up a small portion, but pressed on and the more I did the more I began to calm down and decided it looked alright. Think most of the freak outs stem from the fact its pretty difficult to draw on a 3D surface especially when your trying to get fine detailed lines but I think I've done ok [I hope].
Apologises for dodgy photos you know the score: no good with a camera etc etc...
Will hopefully have the pics of the finished piece very soon...

Horses, Horses, Horses.....

Started work on the second horse, this one will be half Skeleton and half Muscle-tone, bit of a challenge since I've not drawn any horse muscle before and am working from some very dodgy print outs off the internet [bit daunting!] but got the base painted in, well the first layer, will take several more layers before I can ink it :( The Skeleton side however was easier [modest] and didn't actually take very long, thanks to all the practice on the last horse....

Home after my Birmingham adventure [decided a needed a break and an adventure] Loved the spraypaint shop [bench504] it was like a ye ole stylie sweet shop that sold sprayp
aint! The gallery/museum is well worth a look if your ever in b'ham, pretty good collection - esp the Pre-Raphaelite stuff!
Fell in love with "Medea" by Fredrick Sandys, and also really liked the Walter Langley's they had there - mainly showing the aftermath of shipwrecks from the women's perspective. Well worth the journey!!
Saw heaps of awesome graffiti whilst wandering the streets looking for the Custard Factory [where the Spraypaint shop was] the above photo was a piece that really caught my eye and made me smile [especially since I'd just brought a mass of the same stickers to label my prints with]

Oriel Scala

Awesome News!! I have been made a Full Member of Oriel Scala Artist Co-Operative, really really chuffed and massively excited! It means that not only will I be a part of an exciting Artist Co-operative but I will also have a place to sell and exhibit my work on a regular basis. Thanks to all the members for inviting to join them!! :D

[P.s have to say a massive thanks to my Pimp]

I volunteered myself to help with the hanging of the new exhibition in Oriel Scala along with fellow members Judith Samuel and Judy Pemberton. It went surprisingly well and wasn't nearly as hard or stressful as we thought it would be! But I think we were pretty lucky to have a good selection of work and a real variety of style and content, it sounds big-headed to say we've curated a kick-ass exhibition, but I think we may have come close!! [haha modest!!] Anyways if your in Prestatyn pop into the Scala and have a gander and see if you agree/disagree!!

Here's a link to the galleries blog and a sneak peek at us busy working getting the exhibition set up:

Exit Through The Gift Shop...

Went to see the Banksy film in the Scala Cinema tonight [the only local-ish place I've found that's showing it!!] I was paranoid that it would sell out so booked my ticket way in advance and nagged my mates to do the same, so I was shocked and mocked when we go there to discover there was about 12 people there!! [most of them were with me!].
It's such a funny film! I really do recommend it!! Banksy comes off as very witty with a dry sense of humour and Mr Brainwash/Thierry Guetta is completely off his rocker, not the kind of bloke you'd want to be stuck in a lift with - he'd be videoing you in there for one... I would post a review but there's so many online, I wouldn't be able to do it justice anyways....

Counting down now for the dvd release!!!

"Brad" is finished and ready for submission for the next exhibition in Oriel Scala. Not done a full male before so was great to have a contrast to the female dolls I've been working on, although there isn't much difference, the male doll is slightly more anatomically correct...

Spraypaint and Nail Varnish on Wooden Canvas

The finished painting, I've called her "Gladys", really pleased with the way its turned out, alot of work cutting the stencils and then making sure they all lined up correctly [thankfully they did first time!!] Hopefully She'll be up in the next exhibition in the Scala [crosses fingers]

Laura Marling

Went to Manchester for an adventure [that almost rhymes!] with Megs, Dewi and Melly [and later Clare] to see Laura Marling! Was so excited beforehand and thankfully wasn't disappointed afterwards!! Such an amazingly magically gig! Especially 'Night Terror', made me think of the last year in Uni so much, considering I listened to 'Alas I cannot swim' daily and used it as a reference in my work [and of course it soundtracked my car journeys in Megs little green car]. Wondering around Afflecks Palace before the gig left me massively inspired aswell, need to ebay for some Spanish Dolls....

Spent the afternoon working on the spraypainting of the pin-up girl I've been working on, and its nearly done, just some finishing touches left [final layer of spray, nail varnish in the lips and varnish] again I really like the stencils aswell as the actual painting [especially with the paint on them now]. Will post photos when its done...

"Brad" in Progress

Just a few pics I took whilst working on the male doll which I've named "Brad" he's half human and half skeleton. Took a while to put out his hair and to do it in a straight line but got there eventually, I now have doll hair all over my bedroom floor though :(

Ready Steady Go....

Made a stencil of a Pin-up style girl, its going to be a 6 layered spray, but I do actually really like the stencils as papercuts in their own right....

Mixed Media

Got him finished, varnished and on his stand! Took me a while and as with the horse was a bit of a learning curve but well worth it!! Massively chuffed with the finished result. Bit of a hassle to take pics of, I struggled to get the detailing on the muscles to show up but you can see the majority of them ok [the varnish doesn't help matters, but will hopefully keep him protected] Hopefully he'll be on display/sale in the Scala soon!!
