Barry Morris, also known as ‘Badge’ is a visual artists from North Wales.
I’ve always had trouble sleeping and as a child I was plagued by nightmares. Insomnia has led to an inability to tell dream and reality apart. As I got older the nightmares stopped but the insomnia didn’t. I find myself constantly thinking and unable to switch off. I began to explore fears in an attempt to understand and confront them; this investigation has become a reoccurring theme in my work.
My work has developed from investigative paintings of the imagined anatomy of porcelain dolls to cyanotypes of found x-rays. My latest body of work: ‘We share the same skies’ comprises of pencil and ink drawings, with the delicate tones of the pencil work providing a stark contrast to the darker subject matter. Exploring the superstitions, fears and symbolism associated with birds, humans and death.
